muse
________________________________________ _________

I know
the muse has arrived, when
slim pen quivers over creamy paper, and
one drop of ink gathers at the tip
elongates, curves, and pulls away
forming one slender thread, shimmering
gleaming black beneath ivory moonshine
feathering into trails of silver gossamer;
eluding grasping fingers, sailing whitely
through awaiting window on wide wings of night-wind
to meet sleeping world beneath dark wash of sky.

Listen; you will
Catch on bushes; spread
across pale-veined leaves, veil
drooping bells of golden flowers; drift
lazily past twining creepers, trap
snowflakes and dewdrops;
diamond splendour for your elusive grace.
Waft faint scents of the day you were written
past dreamers, and laugh
to see them start awake, searching wildly
for you; catching only
the whisper of rhyme on the wind.

oh, you carry
swirls of stardust in your souls, that
when you are spoken, you will
touch with light fingers, bringing
momentary magical fantasies
of places that listeners sigh for
but never will see.

They are
remnants of dreams spilt from crescent moon
as she rocked over a cloud in my ocean of stars.
you weave your web of perilous enchantments
now, beautiful child of my mind,
you must
release me.

Perhaps all poets dream of their words being able to do this. I know I do. Maybe it's one of the reasons I write.

Daily Deviation

Given 2002-07-13
"When
slim pen quivers over creamy paper..." something is born. Something beyond all that we can touch; but well within what we can all feel. muse by volantis, is dedicated to that intangible thing that somehow makes it all come together. This poem is everything that writers dream of saying...being. (Selected by +euphoria) ( Featured by °euphoria )

I want to be you. I want to kidnap you, take you to lab, and involve you in a scientific experiment that will switch my artistic ability with yours.

Agree with the overload of imagery...perhaps a bit overdone, but still, very well done. That IS poetry. And a DevWatch for you.

Love deviation!!

What a beautifully complexly imagined free flow of thoughts in words. Incredibly well described!

It does get a bit mind-boggling after a while, kinda overwhelming the senses. But there's no denying the richness in imagery.

congrats on DP!

i have to weigh in on the side of jesusbite on this one. i liked where you were going and what you did with it, but the sheer volume of descriptors and adjectives overwhelmed me. that's just a matter of personal taste, i suppose. other than that one issue, very well crafted. you never stray from what you are conveying.

Someone said, they were captivated from the first line. I was. It doesn't happen often but truly, I am speechless. +favlove
